Latest Updates from Our Project:

FLAIL IS FINALLY HERE!
3 months ago – Thu, Jan 15, 2026 at 10:04:13 AM

Andre here. Hope you had a great start to the year - in fact, happy new year! - and i hope you're ready for some old-school ttrpg goodness. This is the e-mail i've been wanting to write for like 2 years and i can't believe it's finally true: FLAIL EXISTS. And you can download it for free by just following the upcoming BackerKit campaign.

This is the game I’ve been working on for the past two years (on and off, between other projects like Mausritter Junk City, The Job, and others, but still), and I can’t believe I’m finally pouring it out into the world. It’s a weird moment, because I’m used to working mostly with other creators on these bigger projects (the original Mausritter, Frontier Scum, Vaults of Vaarn, Haunted Almanac, so many), but this time it was mostly me. I wrote the thing, designed it, laid it out, I did pretty much everything except the art. I hired experts for that :D Inside you’ll find absolute legends like Stefan Poag, Vault Crawler, and Justin McElroy, plus incredible art by newcomer Diogo Barros.

This is the game that’s been always - perhaps even unconsciously - in the back of my mind while I was designing Undying Sands, Bottled Sea, Hexcrawl Toolbox, and all those hex projects. All of them were shaped by a game I hadn’t quite written yet. Now it’s here.

So, enough of the blather. What is this?

FLAIL is my take on the classic old-school fantasy genre. You play with bards, thieves, fighters, clerics, necromancers, wizards, etc - that sort of thing - BUT i do believe the game has enough novelty to keep you excited. There's lost of cool things that i'm very proud of, but i think, mostly, you're gonna like the combat system. I tried a new way of conflict where players roll a bunch of d6s and try to score as many 1s as possible: if they roll three 1st, they eliminate their target outright! I don't really care if it's a Dragon or a ghoul. AND MORE: the game has lots of abilities and special weapons where rolling poker dice results like triplets, pairs, sequences trigger cool additional effects. Once you try it, it's really addictive. You should see my players.

AND I HAVE A PATREON NOW!

I decided to finally open a patreon account so that i can be in direct contact with the incredible Games Omnivorous audience we've built over the last 6 years (!) - yes, it's been that long . If you like me, Games Omnivorous, any of our games, consider joining. The lowest tier is $3 per month and gets you access to lots of cool things, including monthly drops for FLAIL, free adventures for FLAIL, behind-the-scenes for all the projects i'm working on, and more. There's already a bunch of adventures for FLAIL in there. If you are kind enough to subscribe for $8 per month you also get a PERMANENT 10% DISCOUNT on the Games Omnivorous store permanently. No questions asked.

NOW ALL THE USEFUL LINKS FOR FLAIL:

  • FLAIL official page: visit the website for more info on the game.
  • Patreon: please support the patreon! Only $3 per month gets you free adventures, free content, behind-the-scenes, etc.
  • Discord: you're probably already in there, but if you aren't you can join the server to connect with other players and creators.
  • Online tools: create new items for FLAIL and generate hexcrawl maps instantly.
  • Resources folder: click to download printable and digital character sheets. Also hireling and construct sheet, cheat sheet, style guide, GM tracker sheet and more.
  • Third-Party License: FLAIL has a 3p license for fans and creators to create content for the game. Do what you want, I take no cut.

THANK YOU! This is a big day for me,
    Andre Novoa.

More hexes on the new store!
8 months ago – Wed, Aug 06, 2025 at 02:55:25 AM

Hi everyone!

Just a heads up that we have a new website and store. Come check it out! Included in the store is the latest hex set BOREAL FROSTLANDS, along with reprints of Undying Sands and Bottled Sea. The Frostlands are inspired by Arctic lore and stuff like The Thing or The Terror. It's basically a vast, isolated icescape, its peoples not having much way of contact with outsiders, and only very reluctantly yield to the notion that there are warmer lands elsewhere. The setting has beautiful art by Kevin Cannon as usual, and it's full of ruins and temples to explore, strange sightings like ice volcanos and cave systems, and weird beings bound in the permafrost. Oh, and its city is called Iceberg City, where four factions fight for control, including the Flame Whisperers, a sorcerer conclave that keeps everyone warm. This set also comes with two table-ready dungeons: The Temple of the Penguin God and Caves of Thawe

What's next?

Okay, sooooooo. I'm now laying out a new game called FLAIL!, which is basically designed with all these hex settings and worlds in mind. It's going to be a modernised old-school oriented RPG where you can play a bard, bone whisperer (necromancer!), cleric, cutthroat, druid, wizard, warrior or tinkerer. It features a completely new combat system and some neat tweaks drawn from 10+ years of experience running fantasy games. A player once said that this game is  Mausritter meets Dungeon Crawl Classics, and i think that's not wrong? DCC has been my go-to game for playtesting the hex settings, so it's no surprise that playtesters thought of it. And Mausritter... well Mausritter is the game that i've worked on the most since 2020, so no surprise there also i guess.

Anyway, i'm going to be releasing bits of the game, and playtesting it, and asking for advice, and offering some sneak peeks in our DISCORD SERVER. So, if you're interested in learning more, join here please. The idea is to launch the game some time next year and then release more hex settings after that, so we shall see how that goes.

Thanks for your time!

Andre.

THE JOB - a game of glorious heists
12 months ago – Tue, Apr 08, 2025 at 09:18:48 AM

Hey!

Hope you're all doing well; it’s been a while since our last update! We’re excited to share that Games Omnivorous, in partnership with Exalted Funeral, is launching a brand new edition of THE JOB. The game is all about executing the most outrageous heists imaginable—and, of course, embracing everything that can (and absolutely will) go hilariously wrong along the way.

CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE CAMPAIGN PAGE.

Preparation Phase.
Players receive a Brief detailing the location they are robbing, the object, their budget and six known complications. Then, they plan the heist, imagining and writing down the scenes that will make up the Action Phase. Instead of traditional adventure modules, the Players prepare their own session, simulating the experience of planning a heist. They must plan for a total of 12 scenes, account for all complications and inform the Referee which scenes they want to play — not the other way around.

Action Phase.
With the plan in place, it’s time to make it happen. The Referee guides the Players as they step into their roles, bringing their crew to life in the scenes they planned. Every roll carries risk, every choice adds tension, and when things go south, they go fast. This phase is played with the Dice Stack - if it collapses three times, the heist is over. But if the crew holds their nerve? The score is theirs.

The game runs on a 2d6 system, where failure (2-6) adds dice to the stack, partial success (7-9) forces Players to choose between adding dice or enduring a setback, and full success (10+) lets them remove a die. Each crewmember has four unique stunts that grant advantages or let them pull off signature moves. The inventory system is streamlined: when you need something, use one of your four gear slots (that’s all you get for the whole heist!) and deduct the cost from the budget.

If you’ve enjoyed our work in the past, now is a great time to show your support. The games industry—and let’s be honest, the world at large—is facing a lot of uncertainty right now. If our previous games brought you joy, we’d be incredibly grateful for your continued support. It truly means the world to us.

Thank you,
Andre Novoa.

Boreal Frostlands Fully Funded
over 1 year ago – Wed, Nov 27, 2024 at 06:44:31 AM

Hey!

The new BOREAL FROSTLANDS hex-n-screen setting is fully funded. Lots of new hexes featuring a freezing, snow-covered world to play as a stand-alone adventure or add to your HEXCRAWL TOOLBOX collection. The hexes are of course fully compatible with all our previous releases not only in terms of size, but also in terms of art, as everything was done by the amazing Kevin Cannon.

Stretch Goal: almost funded!

And we're only 2k short of the first Stretch Goal. Help us conquer it today! The first goal is for a pamphlet adventure: the CAVES OF THAWE. An adventure featuring a locked up pyromancer in a prison of ice, who is slowly thawing the entire cave system.

The next Stretch Goal after this one is for another adventure: the TEMPLE OF THE PENGUIN GOD. Can the players win the favour of the Penguin God by performing the ritual correctly or will they trigger Its wrath?

PLEASE HELP US MAKE THIS!

THANKS!
