NEW KICKSTARTER + ENNIE AWARD

BOREAL FROSTLANDS KICKSTARTER

A brand new 'hex-n-screen' setting compatible with Undying Sands, Bottled Sea and Hexcrawl Toolbox. LAUNCHING SOON. A vast icescape wasteland in the freezing Norths, dotted with crumbling ruins, temples of old and new, strange sightings and formidable beings bound in the permafrost – aching for a thaw.

SAMPLE HEX: The Elephant Seal Monolith
A colossal ice-mesa inhabited by a thousand elephant seals, with thawing waterfalls. In its middle stands an icy monolith, inscribed with archaic spells from the defunct Cryomantic Conventicle: (1) manipulate ice, (2) frosthand, (3) prison of ice, (4) summon weather, (5) freeze object, (6) floating ice disk. Each spell takes 1d6 days to learn by a skilled wizard. The seals are territorial and do not tolerate intruders on their plateau, but they are easily distracted with entertaining displays, like music, acrobatics, or poetry reading.

HEXCRAWL TOOLBOX WON!

We are thrilled to announce that the Hexcrawl Toolbox won a Silver ENNIE for Best Aid/Accessory! This is our third ENNIE medal (!), following our Gold for Best Family Game with Mausritter in 2021 and Silver for Best Layout/Design with Frontier Scum in 2023. Thank you for your amazing support. NEW KICKSTARTER PREVIEW
over 1 year ago – Wed, Jul 24, 2024 at 08:05:19 AM

Hey!

Here's a sneak peek of the new BOREAL FROSTLANDS hexes. These are of course fully compatible with the Hexcrawl Toolbox, Undying Sands and Bottled Sea.

The Boreal Frostlands are dotted with ruins, temples both old and new, strange sightings and formidable beings bound in the permafrost– aching for a thaw. This is world of frost and ice made of white plains, snowy mountains, shifting floes and freezing waters. This setting will have a few ready-to-play dungeons and, as usual, a screen filled with tools and tables for the GM, physical hex tiles and a cloth bag to put them in.

VOTE FOR THE HEXCRAWL TOOLBOX

We are pleased to announce that THE HEXCRAWL TOOLBOX has been nominated for three (!) ENNIE awards: Best Accessory, Best Cartography and Best Production Values. These are considered the most prestigious awards in the RPG industry, where we're listed alongside the best creators in the world and some of the biggest brands, like Chaosium or Free League. It's an amazing achievement, only possible because of you. THANK YOU for the support once again. This project would not exist if it weren't for you.

Voting starts today. It would mean the world to us if you'd cast us your vote; Vote 1 (not 5)!

DESKTOP APP ALMOST DONE

We haven't forgotten about the app. It's coming along nicely. We underestimated how much work this would take. But we're almost ready to release the beta testing version. Take a glance!

Final fulfilment update
over 2 years ago – Mon, Sep 11, 2023 at 08:56:24 AM

Done!

We believe we are finally done - there are only a handful of backers who have yet to receive their rewards; these will be taken care of this week, no later. Everyone else should have their boxes by now. UFFFFF! This was a hard one to navigate and see through.

Broken boxes

We are aware that some backers received damaged boxes. Although this pretty much always happens with every single campaign out there in the world, it was an unusual amount this time: we are looking at about 3% of backers. This may seem like a small figure, but we here at Games Omnivorous usually do not go over 1% of total orders with reported damaged items or lost mail. This was mostly because this toolbox has proven itself a BEAST to ship and pack. The toolbox is relatively small but extremely heavy for its size (2.2kgs), which means that even with bubblewrap and reinforced cardboard box (which we did not factor in nor charged you all when contemplating shipping costs, but still used to some extent), some are inevitably bound to break. Particularly if you take into consideration how distributors and shipping partners usually handle mail: with their feet, if not by tossing them in the air when loading and unloading trucks. Sigh.

Moving forward

In a way, this is EXACTLY why we do Kickstarters. At this point in our company's history, we are in the fortunate position of not needing to launch a Kickstarter for, let's say, a conventional book: we know how to make one, we know the type of investment needed, and we know what to expect in terms of shipping. However, when it comes to these weird toolboxes with unusual weights and tons of content inside, well... yeah, we really need YOUR HELP. Your support is what ultimately enables us to test out these new things, to experiment with stuff we never did before. Perhaps this time we miscalculated a few things (certainly how the weight of the final product would affect distribution), but Kickstarter is precisely for this: to test out new ideas, to experiment with new formats, to design stuff that we would never have the chance to without your support. As kickstarter likes to remind us all at every opportunity they have: Kickstarter is not a store. We do stand by this.

So, from the bottom of our hearts: THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING US and allowing us the opportunity to bring these unusual projects to life. Without you all, the hexcrawl toolbox wouldn't be. Without you all, we'd never have the chance to do this. We hope you are pleased with what you received and can only dream of having a similar support next time.

Frontier Scum: campaign is live

If you are not aware by now, we have a new campaign for TDES OF ROT, an experimental vinyl LP for Frontier Scum. FRONTIER SCUM is an ENNIE-winning rules-lite Acid Western roleplaying game. We are reprinting the original corebook, making a special edition of the same book, and designing a new adventure in the format of a music vinyl.
